Meet Raymond Cordell
Advisory Board Member
Raymond E. Cordell currently serves as Deputy Chief of Police in the Village of South Barrington, Illinois. Second in command and responsible for a $2.2 million budget, he is direct supervisor of a sworn force of 24 and four civilian employees. He is the author of all general orders and implements policy for the department. He serves as the training manager, community policing project manager, and racial profiling/traffic data collection project manager. He is also a State of Illinois certified firearms instructor. A 20 + year veteran of the department, Deputy Chief Cordell has held positions of increased responsibility throughout his career.
Concurrent with his law enforcement employment, Deputy Chief Cordell is an associate in Charles A. Gruber Consulting, a private consulting company concentrated primarily on matters of concern to law enforcement, where he researches topics related to police use of force, and makes curriculum and policy recommendations pertaining to police use of force.
Deputy Chief Cordell has many professional memberships and civic affiliations including the International Association of Chiefs of Police; the Illinois Tactical Officers Association; Lexipol Illinois Advisory Board; Northwestern University Center for Public Safety and Roosevelt University alumni associations; and the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, where he serves as vice-chairman of the training committee.
Ray is a graduate of Roosevelt University and currently enrolled in a Master of Public Administration program at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He is also a graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command and their Senior Management Leadership Program.
