In a 10 months study on impact weapons, The Weapons and Equipment Research Institute (WERI), at Gulf Coast University concluded that the Peacekeeper Rapid Containment expandable Baton (RCB) out performed all Straight Stick batons, Side Handle batons, and Expandable batons tested.
WERI stated,
“when the RCB batons were tested in this latest study, their performance exceeded those of straight AND expandable batons. Physical examination of the RCB batons revealed virtually no “give” in the joints…It is likely that this efficiency of the locking mechanism coupled with its mass leads to greater energy transfer.”
(It should be further noted that BOTH the 24” and 26” Rapid Containment Batons exceeded ALL of the batons in these test studies).
For years, the baton has taken a back seat to other Less Lethal options. The release of this study has agencies re-evaluating the baton as an effective Less Lethal option.
